The Lionel Messi era at CD Eldense has officially begun with a 4-1 victory over Real Oviedo at the Nuevo Pepico Amat.
The Spanish club announced that Lionel Messi has acquired Eldense, marking the beginning of a new chapter built around a long-term project focused on sporting, institutional and social growth, while maintaining the club’s traditional azulgrana identity. The deal is still subject to approval from Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes, in accordance with the Ley del Deporte.
Eldense’s new era got off to a difficult start, with Real Oviedo taking the lead after just 20 seconds through Alberto Reina. However, the hosts turned the game around after half-time, as Roberto López and Fidel converted two penalties to put Eldense in front.
Olabarrieta and Jorge Rastrojo then scored in stoppage time to complete a convincing 4-1 victory and give Messi’s club a winning start to its new chapter.
Lionel Messi also shared an Instagram Story showing him watching the match, offering a glimpse of the new owner following the action as his newly acquired club began this new era on the pitch.
Founded in 1921, CD Eldense now enters a new phase with ambitions to strengthen its position in professional football while preserving and promoting the club’s history, roots and iconic colours.
