Manchester City have lodged an appeal against an independent Commission’s decision regarding alleged breaches of Premier League rules, with the outcome to remain confidential until officially released.
The club submitted its appeal to the Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel, triggering the next stage of the legal process.
According to the Premier League, the appeal hearing before the independent Appeal Board will be conducted in private and remain confidential until the publication of the outcome is permitted under the regulations.
Under the Premier League Rules, the League’s Board has the authority to investigate any suspected or alleged breaches of regulations. Following an investigation, if the Board considers that there is a case to answer, it can issue a written complaint and refer the matter to an independent Commission.
Members of the Judicial Panel, which includes legal, financial and other experts, are appointed by its independent Chair. The Commission responsible for the case operates independently from the Premier League and has the authority to impose a range of sanctions, including financial penalties, points deductions and other sporting measures.
Any party involved in proceedings may challenge a Commission’s final decision by submitting an appeal to an independent Appeal Board under Section W of the Premier League Rules.
Appeal Boards are appointed by the Chair of the Judicial Panel and consist of three members, including a chairperson who must have held judicial office. The Board has broad powers when reviewing an appeal and may uphold the original decision, dismiss the appeal, or make any other order it considers appropriate, including altering the Commission’s decision.
The final outcome of the appeal will be announced once the proceedings have concluded and publication is permitted under the Premier League regulations.
