Barcelona claimed another Joan Gamper Trophy victory on Wednesday, defeating Al Ahly 2-1 in the annual competition held in memory of the club’s founder, Joan Gamper.
The hosts took the lead in the 30th minute through Hamza Abdelkarim, who found the net against his former club after joining Barcelona from Al Ahly. The Egyptian forward’s goal gave Barça an early advantage in front of their supporters.
Barcelona doubled their lead just before half-time when captain Raphinha converted from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, putting the Catalan side in a strong position.
Al Ahly responded after the break, with Zizo scoring in the 51st minute to reduce the deficit and give the Egyptian champions hope of a comeback. However, Barcelona held on to secure a 2-1 victory and lift the trophy once again.
The triumph marked Barcelona’s 47th title in the Joan Gamper Trophy, further extending their record in the long-running pre-season competition.
