Dallas stadium hosted Argentina’s second match in Group J of the 2026 World Cup, where they defeated Austria 2–0 to secure their place at the top of the group.
Early on, Argentina were awarded a penalty following a VAR decision, but Lionel Messi failed to convert in the 9th minute, sending his shot wide. He also missed another clear chance in the 19th minute.

Messi eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a brilliant low left-footed strike, scoring his 17th World Cup goal and surpassing Miroslav Klose to become the tournament’s all-time leading scorer. The goal gave Argentina national football team a deserved halftime lead.

The second half was more controlled, with Austria pushing for an equaliser but struggling to break through. In the 74th minute, a Messi cross created danger as Nicolás González’s header went narrowly wide. Nicolás González came close again, but Austria held firm until the closing moments.
In the 90+5 minute, Messi struck again to seal the win, confirming a 2–0 victory and completing a historic brace. Austria national football team were unable to respond, and Argentina finished the match with maximum points.
With this result, Argentina move to six points and are guaranteed to finish top of Group J, securing progression to the next round.
