Slaven Bilić has been appointed as the new head coach of the Croatia national team, marking his return to the role after 14 years. Bilić previously led Croatia between 2006 and 2012, guiding the national side through a successful period before stepping away from the position.
Bilić replaces Zlatko Dalić, who has left his role after nine years in charge of the team. Under Dalić, Croatia enjoyed one of the most successful eras in its history, including a World Cup final appearance in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2022.
Speaking after his appointment, Bilić expressed his confidence in the squad and his ambition to maintain Croatia’s place among international football’s elite.
“I have complete confidence in our players, and it is my responsibility to bring energy, ambition, and determination to ensure that Croatia remains among football’s elite,” Bilić said.
“I am genuinely happy to start this challenge and I feel fully prepared for it — as a more mature and experienced coach than I was in 2006, yet with the same motivation and desire to see Croatia stay powerful, bold, and successful.”
The 57-year-old coach returns to the national team with renewed experience and a clear ambition to continue Croatia’s strong presence on the global stage.
