Willy Sagnol has been dismissed as Georgia head coach, just one day after the team’s 0-1 defeat to Northern Ireland in the Nations League.
The defeat came in Georgia’s opening match of the 2027 Nations League campaign, with the Georgian Football Federation announcing Sagnol’s departure on Saturday.
In a statement, the federation thanked Sagnol for his time in charge and for the memorable journey he shared with the team. It highlighted Georgia’s historic qualification for Euro 2024, where they reached the last 16 before being eliminated.
The 49-year-old former Bayern Munich and France right-back had been in charge since February 2021, overseeing 57 matches.
Ramaz Svanadze has been appointed as his replacement and will remain in charge until the end of 2028. He previously managed Georgia’s under-21 side.
