Real Madrid open contract talks with Manchester United and Liverpool target

Real Madrid have opened contract talks with Aurélien Tchouaméni as they aim to secure his long-term future, despite past interest from Premier League clubs.

A year is a long time in football, and Aurélien Tchouaméni is well aware of that. The French midfielder now looks set to remain at Real Madrid for the long term, despite being linked with a possible departure last summer.

Tchouaméni was occasionally used as a central defender under Carlo Ancelotti during an injury crisis, and also struggled at times in an unbalanced midfield. He faced heavy criticism and was even whistled by fans at the Bernabéu in January 2025, leading to speculation that the club might consider offers for him.

However, his situation has improved significantly this season. Under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa, Tchouaméni has performed well and established himself as one of the team’s most consistent players.

When it appeared he might be available, both Liverpool and Manchester United showed interest in signing him. Now, Real Madrid have opened negotiations over a new contract. His current deal runs until 2028, but the club want to extend it to 2031 to avoid future uncertainty.

Meanwhile, there is less clarity over Eduardo Camavinga’s future. He has struggled to secure a regular starting place and has dealt with injuries over the past two seasons. Although he is under contract until 2029, with Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde ahead of him and another midfielder potentially arriving, Real Madrid are expected to consider offers for him.
