The curtain came down on the European football season with the UEFA Champions League final at Puskás Aréna in Budapest. It was a showdown between defending champions Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League winners Arsenal. After a 1-1 draw, PSG retained their crown with a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.
Arsenal struck first in the opening minutes. Exploiting space down PSG's left flank, the Gunners took the lead through Kai Havertz. The German forward, who famously scored in a Champions League final for Chelsea against Manchester City, fired a powerful left-footed effort from a tight angle in the sixth minute to put Arsenal ahead.

The goal forced PSG onto the front foot. Having been one of Europe's most prolific attacking sides throughout the season, the Parisians pushed forward in search of an equaliser. However, Arsenal's disciplined defensive structure held firm until halftime. Even with 77 percent possession, Luis Enrique's side could not find a way through.
As expected, PSG began the second half on the attack, with the defending champions desperate to avoid defeat. Their pressure eventually paid off when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought down in the penalty area by Cristhian Mosquera. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up and converted the resulting penalty in the 65th minute to level the score.

PSG came close to taking the lead in the 77th minute. Kvaratskhelia's effort took a deflection off an Arsenal defender and struck the post, denying the French side a second goal.
The remainder of normal time developed into a tactical battle, with both teams creating promising chances but neither able to find a winner, sending the match into extra time.
The departures of Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé before extra time slightly reduced PSG's attacking threat, while Arsenal finally emerged from their defensive shell after 90 minutes, producing a more balanced contest. In the 102nd minute, Noni Madueke went down inside the PSG penalty area, but the referee waved away Arsenal's appeals for a penalty. Neither side managed to score during the second period of extra time, meaning the final would be decided by penalties.
In the shootout, Gonçalo Ramos, Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Beraldo all converted for PSG, while Nuno Mendes missed his attempt. For Arsenal, Viktor Gyökeres, Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli found the net, but Eberechi Eze and Gabriel failed to convert. PSG ultimately prevailed 4-3 on penalties to successfully defend their UEFA Champions League title.
