Chelsea legend Eden Hazard reveals bizarre new career path with major investment in the ‘Facebook of sport’
Eden Hazard has swapped technique for tech bros – with the Chelsea icon investing in a startup dubbed the Facebook of sport.
The Belgium midfielder showed his sublime skills during seven years at Stamford Bridge, winning both the Premier League and Europa League twice.
Hazard scored 110 goals in 352 games, and also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup before leaving for Real Madrid in 2019.
He retired in 2023 after an injury-plagued spell at the Bernabeu, and has since kept a low profile.
But the 35-year-old has now become an investor and ambassador for Belgian online platform Opportunity Players.
The site offers athletes in all sports the chance to link up with clubs, and is also open to managers, coaches, physios and nutritionists.
Hazard’s former Belgium teammate Laurent Ciman, 40, manages the service from his base in north America.
Fellow Red Devil, Girona defender Axel Witsel, 37 has also invested in the business.
And ex-Tottenham and West Brom winger Nacer Chadli, 36, is listed on Opportunity Players’ website among its supporters.
Hazard hailed the service, insisting: “It is unique. Nothing like this existed before, and we have created it.”
Chief executive Christel Cherain added: “Opportunity Players is a community that makes respect, safety and the common good its top priorities.
“We offer space to everyone who wants to pursue their dreams.”
The site already has 40,000 users, and aims for a MILLION by next year after expanding into China, South America and north Africa.
Belgian media have already acclaimed it as sport’s answer to LinkedIn or Facebook.
In addition to that, the former Chelsea star also owns a wine business, as well as taking part in various charity matches and mega bike rides since retirement.
