Lionel Messi has officially purchased Spanish fifth-tier club UE Cornellà, taking full ownership of the team.
The 38-year-old Inter Miami star has reportedly acquired 100% of the club, marking a significant step into football ownership. Cornellà is based in Catalonia, just a few miles from Barcelona’s Camp Nou — a region deeply connected to Messi’s legendary playing career.
In an official statement, the club confirmed the acquisition, emphasizing Messi’s strong ties to the area and his commitment to developing local talent. His arrival is seen as the beginning of a new era, focused on long-term growth, sustainability, and strengthening the club’s foundations.
Founded in 1951, UE Cornellà has a history of developing notable players, including David Raya and Jordi Alba — Messi’s former teammate at both Barcelona and Inter Miami.
Currently, the club is competing for promotion back to Spain’s fourth tier after being relegated last season. With Messi now at the helm, expectations for the club’s future have significantly increased.
